To reduce the number of dogs being euthanized in shelters; Reduce over breeding/accidental reproduction; Ensure that every lost dog can find their way home. We intend to do this through saving death row dogs, placing them in foster care, giving them all of the medical and emotional attention they need through their stay with us, micro-chipping, and ensuring that the public is educated on the importance of spaying/neutering.
Being the owners of rescue dogs ourselves, we have witnessed first hand, not only the amazing joy that rescue dogs can bring to their forever homes, but the overwhelming NEED for more help.
Many of these poor animals never know what it means to be loved, but so desperately crave it.
An unimaginable 7 million animals will enter a shelter this year, more than half of which are dogs. For various reasons more than half of the dogs will be euthanized. In fact, one animal every thirteen seconds, is euthanized in shelters in the US, many of which are the results of accidental breeding of a beloved family pet. Of all of the animals coming into shelters each year, only about 1.2 of the 7 million will ever be adopted. Making the incredible need for more rescues vividly clear. Aside from the few that are humanely euthanized through lethal injection, most are alone, terrified, and feeling abandoned; being undeservingly Gassed in chambers, Beaten or even Shot, to never know what true love, companionship, and trust really is.
Emerald City Rescue is motivated to take in dogs that are orphaned, unwanted, sick, or abused, because we strongly believe that these animals just need a second chance to be loved. They do not ask for that life, they do not deserve that abuse, and they are begging for a better tomorrow.
We are a dedicated group of individuals that believes every life is worth a second look or a second chance. That behind every sheltered puppy eye is a story, is pain, but is Hope. We believe that you Can teach an old dog new tricks; and that every dog needs the right person to listen to their story and Believe in them.
Emerald City is run entirely by animal loving, caring, and passionate volunteers, because we all believe:
"There is no place like a home with a dog"
